The transformation of BB&T Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field will continue with the announcement by Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf of a $1.25 million dollar grant to the City of Williamsport for continued renovations to the stadium.
The Redevelopment Capital Assistance Program grant will be used to further update the 91-year old facility including the replacement of the lower portion of the seating bowl, expected to be in place for the 2018 season.
“I want to thank Governor Wolf, Senator Yaw, Mayor Campana and Bill Nichols for all they have done to solidify the commitment to professional baseball in Williamsport,” said Peter Freund, Principal owner of the Crosscutters. “In addition to our new premium deck, these funds enable us to replace all of our current seating, making the second oldest ballpark in minor league baseball one of the top facilities in the New York Penn League.”
Current renovations taking place at the stadium include the construction of a $1.1 million Premium Deck located down the right field line that will debut in 2017 and the replacement of the grandstand seating to individual seats which will take place just prior to the start of the Cutters upcoming season. The stadium upgrades are being funded by a partnership between the Williamsport Crosscutters, the City of Williamsport, River Valley Transit, and the Lycoming County Visitor’s Bureau.
