Williamsport, PA — A night after picking up three hits, outfielder Jesus Alastre goes 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI to fuel the Cutters 9-4 win over the Batavia Muckdogs at BB&T Ballpark. Since being re-called, Alastre is sporting a .667 batting average.
Batavia for the second-straight night was able to get to the Cutters starter early, this time getting a 1stinning run off of Ranger Suarez. Eric Gutierrez plated Corey Bird with a one-out single to open the scoring.
In the 3rd, the Cutters made their mark, taking their first lead as David Martinelli scored on a Batavia throwing error, making it a 2-1 Williamsport advantage.
After a Jhonny Santos solo home run off of Suarez in the top of the 4th inning tied the game at two, the Cutters were able answer back in the bottom of the 4th, re-taking the lead and this time, for good.
The first run of the inning was scored by Chandler Hall, as he scored on a ball put in play by Juan Luis to give the Cutters a 3-2 lead. Juan Luis ended up on 3rd base due to another Muckdogs error, which set up another Cutters run in the inning. Jesus Alastre plated Luis with a single to give Williamsport a two-run lead at 4-3.
Ranger Saurez held the Batavia offense in check over the next three innings, finishing the night with five innings of work, allowing just the two run, both earned. The left-hander struck out three and walked one while allowing his 2nd home run of the season.
Grant Dyer entered in the top of the 6th inning to relieve Suarez and he was outstanding, retiring all six batters that he faced in his two innings of work. Dyer struck out three over his two innings of relief.
Luis Espiritu Jr. was able to add on to the Cutters lead in the bottom of the 6th inning as he raced home on a Trevor Richards wild pitch making it 5-2 in favor of the hometown club.
In the 7th, the Cutters bats were able to break the game open, scoring four more times in the frame, and sending nine men to the plate. David Martinelli opened the scoring with a lead off home run over the right field wall, his third round-tripper of the season.
Juan Luis and Jesus Alastre were able to join in the RBI fun in the 7th as well, each collecting and RBI single to help extend the Cutters lead to 9-2 heading into the 7th inning.
Batavia added an unearned run in the top of the 8th inning against Kenny Koplove, who finished his lone inning of relief allowing just one hit and striking out a pair. The Muckdogs tallied an earned run in the top of the 9th against Carlos Indriago, but that is all they could manage.
Along with Alastre, Enmanuel Garcia, Gregori Rivero, Luis Espiritu Jr. and Juan Luis were all able to collect multi-hit games, helping the Cutters to a season-high 15 hits on the night as they improve to 5-0 against the Batavia Muckdogs this season.
Williamsport concludes their three-game series against the Batavia Muckdogs tomorrow night at BB&T Ballpark. Felix Paulino looks for his first win of the season as he is scheduled to start for the Crosscutters. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
