The Talk Williamsport Student Athletes of the Week presented by Beiter’s for the week of October 14th, 2016 are as follows:
Anya Plattnikova, Senior, South Williamsport Area High School
Sport: Tennis
Anya Plattnikova recently captured a PIAA District IV Girl’s tennis title, as well as a berth into the State tennis playoffs.
Along with being a standout on the tennis court, Plattnikova is also a member of the South Williamsport track and field team.
Outside of athletics, Plattnikova carries a GPA over 3.0 and is a member of the Peace Corp Club, Key Club, FBLA, Teen Contact and National Honor Society
Anya currently ranks second in the senior class, just percentage points below the student ahead of her. Plattnikova, should also be a junior, taking independent study classes after her freshmen year and continued to take advanced placement and other college-prep classes to graduate a year ahead of schedule.
After graduating from South Williamsport, Anya would like to attend Johns Hopkins to major in pre-med/neuroscience. She is currently going through the admissions process now.
South Williamsport Athletic Director Scott Hill was quoted, “She’s [Anya] a great kid and we’re sorry that she’s leaving us early, and not only for the tennis.”
William Knauth, Senior, Williamsport Area High School
Sport: Golf
William Knauth has enjoyed an extremely successful season of the golf course for the Williamsport Millionaires.
Outside of athletics, William is an accomplished violinist, recently playing the lead on stage with Brett Michaels at the Community Arts Theater. Knauth also plays the violin for the strolling strings, attending numerous functions throughout the school year.
William is very active in student government at Williamsport Area High School, and is on the executive board for his senior class.
After graduation, William is looking to continue his golf career at an Ivy League school, preferably at Harvard.
According to Williamsport Athletic Director Sean McCann, ” He [Will] is an excellent representative for WAHS.”
