Norwich, CT — Williamsport connected on a pair of home runs and jumped out front early, but were unable to hold on as they fall 6-4 to the Connecticut Tigers, dropping their record to 3-9 on the road this season.
Williamsport didn’t waste anytime getting on the board, getting a pair of runs in the top of the 1st inning off of Connecticut starter Gregory Soto. Luke Williams drove in David Martinelli with a single into left field, to give Williamsport a 1-0 lead. For Williams, it was his third run batted in of the season.
Henri Lartigue scored the second run of the inning, racing home on a wild pitch from Soto to give the Cutters a 2-0 lead after the top of the first inning.
Luke Williams wasn’t done providing offense for the Crooscutters as the 3rd basemen drove a Gregory Soto offering high over the wall in left to give the Cutters a 3-0 lead. It was the first home run for Williams in a Cutters uniform and his fourth RBI on the year.
Connecticut got a run back in the bottom of the 4th inning after a pair of Arquimedez Gamboa errors to cut the deficit to 3-1 against Cutters starter Ranger Suarez.
Gamboa redeemed himself in the top of the 5th inning, taking a Taylor Hick’s pay-off pitch over the wall in right to get the Cutters lead back to 4-1. It was Gamboa’s first home run and was his 5th RBI of the year.
After the Tigers plated a pair of runs off of Cutters reliever Jonathan Hennigan in the bottom of the 7th inning, they looked to carry their momentum into the bottom of the 8th inning against reliever Tyler Hallead.
Hallead, who had got the Cutters out of the 7th inning, allowed the first three Tigers batters to reach in the 8th inning before being replaced by Will Hibbs.
Hibbs entered, striking out the first two batters he faced, keeping the bases loaded with two away. The big blow came when Cesar Gonzalez lined a Hibbs offering into the left-center gap to the wall for a bases clearing triple, giving the Tigers their first and only lead of the night.
Cutters starter Ranger Suarez allowed one run, unearned, in five innings of work in the no-decision. Suarez finished the night with a pair of strike outs to go with a pair of walks.
For the second-straight night, the Crosscutters committed four errors, leading to two unanswered runs in the loss.
Williamsport concludes their three-game series in Norwich, Connecticut against the Tigers. Felix Paulion is scheduled to start for the Williamsport Crosscutters. Austin Sodders will get the start for the Connecticut Tigers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
