Crosscutters Fall to Spinners on Road

Cutters Postgame Recap
Lowell, M.A.. – After what started as a pitcher’s duel, the Williamsport Crosscutters opened their first true road trip of 2016 with an 8-1 loss against the Lowell Spinners.

Seranthony Dominguez would start his night working five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and striking out five Spinners batters.

Unfortunately for Dominguez, the Spinners would strike for three runs in the bottom half of the 6th inning. After retiring the first batter of the inning, Dominguez would give up back-to- back singles to Andy Perez and Ryan Scott. With runners on 1 st and 2 nd , Dominguez hit his first and only batter of his outing, when he hit Rolandi Baldwin to load the bases. Spinners first basemen Jerry Downs, who had been held hit-less to this point of the season, would drive the first pitch from Dominguez down the right field line for a bases clearing double to give the Spinners a 3-0 lead.

This would mark the first time that the Crosscutters did not score first in a game this season. Dominguez would be relieved in the bottom half of the 7 th inning, by Tyler Hallead, who was making his professional debut after being taken in the 2016 draft. Hallead would not have the debut he was looking for as they Spinners would add three more runs in the frame.

Carlos Tovar would lead off the inning with a wall-ball double to left-center, which was followed by a single to right by Nick Lovullo to put runners on the corners with no body out. Tovar would score on a pass ball by Cutters catcher Rodolfo Duran to make it 4-0 Spinners. Ryan Scott would plate Lovullo with a RBI ground out to first to make it a 5-0 lead. The scoring would be capped by a Ronaldi Baldwin single into center that would score Chris Madera who had walked earlier in the inning, to give the Spinners a 6-0 lead.

Gandy Stubblefield would relieve Hallead, but would suffer a similar fate in the bottom half of the 8th inning as they Spinners would add two more runs.

Yoan Aybar lead off the inning with a triple down the right field line and would be plated by a single off the bat of the next batter, Victor Acosta to make it a 7-0 lead. After a Carlos Tovar’s second double in as many innings, Nick Lovullo would score Acosta from 3 rd with a sacrifice fly to left to give the Spinners their largest lead at 8-0.

Williamsport would not be shutout, as they were able to score a run in the top of the 9 th inning against Spinners reliever Brad Stone, thanks to a Jake Sweaney RBI single that would plate Enmanueal Garcia to cut the deficit to 8-1. The Cutters would be unable to plate anymore in the frame, falling for a second consecutive night on the road.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Edward LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Massachusetts. Slated to start for Williamsport is Felix Paulino who will be opposed by Kevin Steen for Lowell.
