The Cutters offense was held to just four hits in their 2-1 loss against the State College Spikes at BB&T Ballpark. It was only the fourth home loss for the Cutters as they fall two games back in the Pinckney division.
Mark Laird provided the lone Crosscutters run with a RBI single in the bottom of the 3rd inning against Spikes starter Carson Cross. For Laird, it was his 8th RBI of the season and it gave Williamsport an early 1-0 lead.
Laird was the only Cutters batter to record a multiple hits as he finished the night 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.
State College was able to tie the game in the top of the 4th inning as Jeremy Martinez doubled home Vince Jackson to knot the game against Cutters starter Bailey Falter. It was Martinez’s 15th RBI of the year.
Tommy Edman gave the Spikes a 2-1 lead with his 3rd home run of the season, on a ball over the left field wall. It was Edman’s 19th RBI of the season and was enough to give the Spikes the lead for good.
Williamsport tried to tie the game late as Henri Lartigue recorded his first triple of the season. It came with one out in the bottom of the 9th, unfortunately the Cutters were not able to plate the run to tie the game.
Cutters starter Bailey Falter fell to 1-4 on the season despite pitching well. The left-hander worked five innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits while striking out four Spikes batters. Falter did surrender his 3rd home run of the season, which was the go-ahead marker in the top of the 5th for State College.
Kenny Koplove and Jon Hennigan combined to toss four shutout innings of relief for Williamsport. Koplove allowed two hits, a walk and struck out a batter in his two innings of work. Hennigan worked around a base hit, striking out a batter in his inning of relief.
The SawBuck series takes to State College tomorrow night. Adonis Medina will look to improve on his 4-0 record as he takes to the hill for the Crosscutters. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. At Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
