WILLIAMSPORT — For the second time this season, the Williamsport Crosscutters were held scoreless, as they dropped the series opener to the Brooklyn Cyclones by a final of 1-0.
Brooklyn was able to break through in the top of the 6th inning against Williamsport starter JoJo Romero, as Ali Sanchez delivered a RBI single into centerfield that scored Michael Paez from 3rdbase to give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead.
It was the 9th RBI of the season for Sanchez.
The Cutters would threaten by getting runners in scoring position in the each of the 3rd, 4th, 6th and 7th innings, but would not be able to plate a run against the trio of Cyclones pitchers.
Williamsport left seven runners on base, while going 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position on the night.
JoJo Romero was strong, tossing six innings and allowing just one run on four hits. Romero did not allow a walk and struck out five Cyclones batters, but took a tough loss as his offense could not back his efforts.
Jon Hennigan and Carlos Indriago combined to throw three shutout innings. Hennigan had one of his best outings, retiring all six batters he faced over two innings while striking out three. Indriago worked around a base hit and a pair of wild pitches in his inning of relief.
Harol Gonzalez got the start and the win for the Cyclones. The right-hander tossed six and a third innings of shutout baseball. Gonzalez scattered seven hits and a walk while striking out four Cutters batters. He was lifted in the 7th inning after throwing his season-high 100th pitch.
Darick Hall collected his third straight multi-hit game as he finished 2-for -4 with his 16th double of the season. Brett Barbier also collected a multi-hit game, finishing the night 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.
Williamsport continues their three-game series against the Brooklyn Cyclones tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at BB&T Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field.
