Cutters Drop Final Road Game

STATE COLLEGE — The Crosscutters were able to out-hit the Spikes, 10-6, but were unable to pick up the win as Williamsport dropped their final road game of the season, 3-2 to State College.

State College jumped out to an aerly lead against Cutters starter Bailey Falter, getting the games opening run on a Jeremy Martinez RBI single that scored Vince Jackson and gave the Spikes a 1-0 lead.

The Cutters answered back in the top of the 4th inning, taking advantage of a throwing error as Luis Espiritu stole 2nd base, the throw went into centerfield allowing Darick Hall to score from 3rd and tie the game at 1-1.

The Spikes reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the 5th inning, when Danny Hudzina drilled a Bailey Falter offering off the top of the wall in left center to plate Elier Rodriguez and give the Spikes a 2-1 lead. It was the 12th double of the season for Hudzina.

Enmanuel Garcia tied the game for the Cutters in the top of the 7th inning, sending a Gerwuins Velazco offering over the wall down the left field line, tying the game at 2-2. It was the 6th home run of the year for Garcia.

The Spikes were able to take the lead for good in the bottom of the 8th inning thanks to a Jeremy Martinez RBI single that scored Tommy Edman and gave the Spikes a 3-2 lead.

The Cutters, who went down inorder in the top of the 8th inning, also went down in order against Spikes close Eric Carter in the top of the 9th inning.

Enmanuel Garcia finished the night 3-for-4, ending the night just a triple shy of the cycle. Garcia drilled his 6th home run to lead off the top of the Cutters 7th inning, tying the game at 2-2 and giving the the Cutters outfielder his 18th RBI of the season.

Bailey Falter worked five innings, allowing two runs, both earned on six hits and a walk. The southpaw finished the night with five strikeouts, while taking a no decision.

Tyler Hallead went the final three innings, allowing just one run on one hit while walking two batters. Hallead struck out a pair while taking his 2nd loss of the season.

With the win, the Spikes take the 2016 Saw-Buck series, winning their sixth game. The Cutters will conclude their 2016 regular season tomorrow with the 10th and final game of the Saw-Buck series tomorrow afternoon at BB&T Ballpark.

The Crosscutters return home to play their final game of the 2016 regular season as they play host to the State College Spikes. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. At BB&T Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field.
