Cutters Stumble In (Un)Happy Valley

Cutters Postgame Recap

Williamsport suffered their second straight loss in Happy Valley as the Crosscutters fell to the State College Spikes on Friday Night 9-2 at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

After Williamsport started the game going down in order in the Top of the 1st, State College would open up the scoring as Tommy Edman hit a lead-off triple to Right Field off of Cutters starter Adonis Medina, and would score on a Mick Fennell groundout the very next at-bat to make it 1-0.

State College would add two more runs in the second inning to make it a 3-0 game, but the Williamsport offense would start to show signs of life in the Top of the 3rd inning.

Evan Rogers would start things off by working a lead-off walk from Spikes starting pitcher Steven Farinaro, and Juan Luis would follow that up with a single to Right Field to move Rogers to third base. Luis would also move up to second base on a throwing error on the same play.

With one out in the third, Arquimedes Gamboa hit a sacrifice fly into Center Field that would score Rogers and allow Luis to move up to third, putting the Cutters on the board and making it a 3-1 game. Then, with David Martinelli batting, Luis would score as well on a Wild Pitch by Steven Farinaro to pull Williamsport within a run at 3-2. Martinelli would reach on a single, but would be caught stealing to end the Williamsport threat in the third.

State College would go on to break the game open in the Bottom of the 3rd inning, as back-to-back throwing errors from Cutters shortstop Arquimedes Gamboa would setup Spikes DH Elier Rodriguez for a three-run homer to right field and push the State College lead to four at 6-2.

State College would eventually tack on runs in the fourth and sixth innings as the Crosscutters eventually fell to the Spikes 9-2.

Williamsport starter Adonis Medina would see his ERA rise to a 1.66 as he took his first loss of the season after working four innings giving up six hits, allowing seven runs, three earned, walking two batters, and striking out three.

Tyler Hallead would come in to attempt to stop the bleeding, but would give up an additional two runs, one earned, on a single hit while walking two and striking out two.

Carlos Indriago would end the game on a strong note for the Cutters bullpen as he worked the final two innings without giving up a hit or a walk, and striking out two.

The SawBuck series continues on Saturday Night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Left-hander Cole Irvin will take to the mound for the Crosscutters. Irvin is 1-1 this season with a 1.11 ERA. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
