Niles, OH — After waiting out another rain delay before game one, the Crosscutters were swept by the Scrappers in a doubleheader, as well as the series. Williamsport enters the All Star break five game over .500 at 30-25.
The Cutters runs in game one of the doubleheader came on a 2nd inning two run home run by left fielder Enmanuel Garcia, that cleared the bullpen in left, giving the Cutters a 2-1 lead at the time. The home run was Garcia’s 2nd of the season and gave him is 6th and 7th RBI of the year.
Mahoning did most of their damage in the 6th, plating their final three runs in the bottom of the 6th inning, taking a 5-2 lead.
Garcia finished game one, 2-for-3 with a home run and a single.He was the only Cutter to record a multi-hit game in the loss.
Ranger Suarez suffered his 2nd loss of the season, allowing five runs, all earned over five and a third innings of work. The lefty finished the night allowing five walks and six hits while striking out six Scrappers batters.
Felix Paulino was strong in his start in game two of the twinbill, allowing one run, earned over six innings of work. Paulino scattered six hits and a walk while tying a season-high with seven strikeouts in the no-decision.
Enmanuel Garcia got the Cutters on the board with a solo home run in the top of the 6th inning. It was Garcia’s 3rd home run of the season, giving him his 8th RBI of the year. The home run tied the game at 1-1.
Chandler Hall gave the Cutters a 2-1 lead in the top of the 9th inning with a RBI double to right-center that score Garcia. The double was the seventh of the season for Hall and gave him his 6th run batted in.
Mahoning Valley plated the tying run in the bottom of the 9th on an unearned run against Will Hibbs to force the game into extra innings.
In the bottom of the 10th, the Scrappers got their lead off man aboard on a throwing error by Hibbs. The runner advanced to 3rd on a passed ball by Henri Lartigue with no outs. Hibbs intentionally walked the next two batters to load the bases before being replaced by Jon Hennigan.
Emmanuel Tapia grounded an offering off of the glove of Luke Williams allowing the game winning run to score. Williams was charged with an error on the play, the 3rd of the night for the Cutters.
The unearned run was charged to Hibbs, who took the loss in game two.
Williamsport concludes their three-game series against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. at Eastwood Field in Niles, Ohio.
