Cutters Walk Off Scrappers in Extras

Cutters Postgame Recap

Williamsport, PA — In what was the longest game played by the Williamsport Crosscutters to this point in the young season, Luke Maglich’s RBI single into center scored Rodolfo Duran and gave the Cutters a 1-0 walk-off win in 13 innings Wednesday night.

Adonis Medina was spectacular in his second start of the season, working 6.2 innings of shutout baseball, stretching his scoreless innings streak to 12,2 innings to start 2016. Medina struck out a season-high four Scrappers batters while walking three and allowing two hits, while taking the no-decision.

The Cutters bullpen matched Medina, as Will Hibbs, Jeff Singer and Geury Ortiz worked 6.2 innings of shutout baseball. Allowing a combined one hit to the Scrappers while striking out six. As the Cutters ended a season-high four game losing streak and avoiding their first five-game losing streak since 2013.

Hibbs replaced Medina in the top of the 7th inning with two outs and the bases loaded by striking out Scrappers lead off man, Gabriel Mejia on three pitches. Hibbs stayed in the game, working back-to-back clean innings in the 8th and the 9th.

Singer entered in the top of the 10th inning, following Hibbs’ lead, tossing two shutout innings, surrendering just one hit. Singer, through three appearances in 2016 has tossed six shutout frames while striking out eight.

Ortiz had no problem following suit as the right-hander tossed back-to-back clean innings of relief in the 12th and 13th innings, not allowing a ball off of the infield en route to earning his first win of 2016.

Williamsport threatened to score the game-winning run in each of the 9th, 10th and 12thinnings, getting a runner into scoring position, but failing to get the runner home. One of the main reasons, the Cutters 2 for 12 with runners in scoring position, leaving runners in scoring position four different times.

The lone run of the game came in the bottom of the 13th, which was started by a Rodolfo Duran broken bat single. Duran reached second on a sacrifice bunt by Juan Luis. Following a Jose Antequera strikeout, Duran reached third on a wild pitch by Scrappers reliever Ryan Perez. Luke Maglich plated Duran with a single into center on a two-two offering giving the Cutters their first walk-off win of 2016.

Williamsport remains at home for game two of their series against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers at BB&T Ballpark. Ranger Suarez makes his second start of 2016 for the Williamsport Crosscutters as he will be opposed by Tristan McKenzie, who will be making his second start for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers.
