
WILLIAMSPORT — Darick Hall continued his torrid offensive pace as he sparked an offensive outburst for the Crosscutters, as they take the middle game of the series by the final of 8-2 against the Brooklyn Cyclones.
Darick Hall got the scoring started for the Cutters in the bottom half of the 1st inning, scoring Luke Maglich from 3rd base with a sacrifice fly to right field. The run gave the Cutters an early 1-0 lead and was their first run and lead of the series.
Brooklyn aided in the 2nd run being scored for Williamsport as a throwing error by 3rd basemen Blake Tiberi allowed Chandler Hall to score all the way from 1st base, with two out, to extend the Cutters lead to 2-0.
Williamsport’s DH wasn’t done contributing, as Darick Hall hit a tower home run over the scoreboard in right field to plate Luke Maglich for the second time in the game. It was Hall’s team-leading 6thhome run of the season. The blast extended the Cutters lead to 4-0 heading into the 4th inning.
Brooklyn was able to use a Cutters error and a pass ball by Henri Lartigue in the top of the 4th inning to get their first run of the night, as Cone scored on the pass ball to cut the Cutters lead to 4-1.
Darick Hall continued his impressive night with a RBI double to deep left-center, chasing home David Martinelli to give Williamsport a 5-1 lead. The double was the 17th of the season for Hall, good for the team lead.
Brett Barbier plated Hall later in the inning with a soft-serve liner into left field, giving Williamsport a 6-1 lead in the bottom of the 5th.
Williamsport was able to add two more runs in the bottom of the 8th inning thanks to a rally sparked by Juan Luis. Luis wasted a two-strike pitcher’s pitch, and proceeded to rip a hot shot that was booted by Cyclones second basemen Michael Paez. Evan Rogers went from 1st to 3rd on the play.
Luke Maglich follwed with a rip down the 1st base line to score Rogers and move Luis over to 3rdbase, giving Williamsport a 7-1 lead. David Martinelli drove home Luis with a single, giving the Cutters their eighth run of the night and an 8-1 lead going into the 9th.
The Cyclones were able to squeak a run in the top of the 9th against Tyler Hallead, but that would all they would be able to get against the Cutters reliever.
Hall finished the night 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and a season-high four RBI. Hall currently has 21 RBI on the season, good a tie for the clubhouse lead with former Dallas Baptist teammate David Martinelli, who plated his 21st RBI, finishing the night 2-for-5.
Luke Maglich picked up his 17th RBI and Brett Barbier tallied his 9th RBI of the season in the win.
The offense backed a strong performance from Felix Paulino, who earned his 2nd win of the season. Paulino finished the night, allowing an unearned run on two hits and a walk, while striking five Cyclones batters of the course of six innings.
Tyler Hallead allowed one earned run, on three hits and a walk while picking up a strikeout over three innings. For Hallead, he earned his first professional save.
Unfortunately, despite the win, the Crosscutters were eliminated from the Pinckney division race as the State College Spike edged the Auburn Doubledays to clinch the division. The Cutters remain alive in the Wild Card chase, currently led by the Staten Island Yankees.
Williamsport concludes their three-game series against the Brooklyn Cyclones tomorrow night. With the Little League World Series Championship being played earlier in the day, first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at BB&T Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field.
Cutter Carvings – Williamsport pounded out 12 hits, their most hits since collecting 12 hits against West Virginia on July 18th… The Cutters eight runs were the most they have scored since scoring eight against Staten Island on August 5th. Both of those games were at BB&T Ballpark…
