Cutters Postgame Recap

Williamsport, PA. — Cutter slugger Darick Hall provided the power, collecting a pair of RBI with a home run and a double to back Cole Irvin’s quality start in the Cutters 8-1 win over the Staten Island Yankees, avoiding the sweep.

Staten Island got out to an early lead, plating a run in the top of the 2nd inning against Cole Irvin. The run came on an RBI single by Angel Aguilar that plated Timmy Robinson to give the Yankees their 1-0 lead.

It would be the only run allowed by Cole Irvin, as the left-hander went into lock down mode. Irvin was solid, logging a season-high six innings of work, allowing just one run, earned, while scattering five hits and a walk while striking out four. The southpaw earned his 3rd win of the season.

The Cutters offense responded with a run in the bottom of the 3rd inning, tying the game as Enmanuel Garcia raced home on an error by Yankees 3rd basemen Yancarlos Baez.

Darick Hall gave the Cutters their first lead of the season with a majestic home run over the scoreboard in right field. The home run was Hall’s 4th of the season and 1st since July 3rd against Batavia.

The Cutters offense continued to add on, this time in the bottom of the 6th inning against Yankees reliever Jonathan Padilla. The Cutters posted a three spot in the frame, getting RBI from Enmanuel Garcia and Chandler Hall along the way. The Cutters built their lead to 5-1 after 6 innings.

Darick Hall wasn’t finished, as he highlighted a two-run Cutters 7th with an RBI double into the right-center gap that7 scored Jesus Alastre from 1st base. It was Hall’s 10th double of the season and gave him his 12th RBI of the year.

The Cutters added one more run in the bottom of the 8th inning, this time off of Staten Island reliever David Palladino to take an 8-1 lead into the 9th.

Blake Quinn was strong as he closed the game with three, no-hit, scoreless innings of relief, striking out two to earn his first professional save.

Darick Hall finished the night 2-for-5 with his 4th home run, in the 4th inning which gave the Cutters the lead for good and then a RBI double in the 7th that extended the Cutters lead. Henri Lartigue, Enmanuel Garcia and Chandler Hall all finished the night with two hits for the Cutters, who outhit the Yankees 9 to 5.

With the win and the Spikes loss, the Cutters gain a game on State College in the Pinckney division race. The Crosscutters hold on to a game and a half lead in the New York-Penn League Wild Card race with the win.

Williamsport returns to Pinckney division play as they travel to Morgantown, West Virginia to start a three-game series against the West Virginia Black Bears. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Monongalia County Ballpark.
