Williamsport, PA — Six Crosscutters errors, the most committed by a team in the New York-Penn League this season, lead to a 13-5 loss in the opening game against the Hudson Valley Renegades.
After Hudson Valley took a 1-0 lead on a pair of Crosscutters errors in the top of the 1st inning, the Cutters stormed back to plate five runs in the bottom of the frame to take their first lead.
The Cutters were able to get their first six batters to reach, and sent all nine batters to the plate, getting RBI from Luke Maglich, Darick Hall, Brett Barbier and Luis Espiritu to throw up a five spot against Hudson Valley starter Eduard Rosillo.
The Renegades, who did not get their first hit until the top of the third inning, responded with 12 unanswered runs on 14 hits over the next 8 innings, en route to taking game one of the series.
The 13 runs are the most allowed by the Cutters pitching staff this season, while the 14 hits are tied for the most allowed in a single game for Williamsport.
Starter Bailey Falter was dealt an unlucky hand, tossing two and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs, all unearned, on one hit while walking three and striking out two. Falter took the no-decision.
Kenny Koplove took the loss, allowing four runs, two earned, in 2.2 innings of relief. Koplove allowed six hit, a pair of walks while striking out three. Alex Kline allowed a pair of runs, one earned, on two hits, two walks and a strikeout in 1.1 innings. Tyler Hallead tossed the final 2.1 innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on five hits and a home run while striking out two.
Luke Maglich was the highlight of the Cutters offense, as the outfielder finished the night 3-for-4 with his 5th double and his 15th RBI of the season. The eight run deficit is tied for the worst loss this season for the Cutters.
Luis Espiritu and Brett Barbier also recorded multi-hit games. Espiritu finished 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and his 4th RBI, while Barbier finished 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and his 6th RBI.
Williamsport continues their three-game home stand against the Hudson Valley Renegades. Adonis Medina toes the slab for Williamsport, as the All Star looks for his 5th win. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. At BB&T Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field.
