EXCLUSIVE: LCC Metzger takes issue with Sec. Levine response on spreading fear

On Thursday, Lycoming County Commissioner Scott Metzger was contaced by News Talk 104.1 to gauge reaction to comments made by Secretary of Health, Dr. Rachel Levine during her daily press conference.

According to Commissioner Metzger, “One example, DOH told a pair of Lycoming County residents in their 80’s, 6 weeks ago, told to quarantine and have not called since.

How can you produce recovered numbers when cases from 6 weeks ago are not being followed up on?

We have flattened the curve, if we hadn’t it would have overwhelmed the health system.

Now, we don’t know when we’re going to reopen and some areas of the country are saying not until we have a cure.

Then they wonder why people are angry and confused.

From a Commissioner Metzger social media post that shared the talkwilliamsport.com report from today; Secretary Levine responded today at their news conference to my statement that I made at the Lycoming County Commissioners work session.

I stated they need to stop spreading fear.

In a recent survey countywide of 600 people the fear circulating this virus was number one on the list followed by unemployment and crime. Sec. Levine stated today they are not spreading fear. She also said a few weeks ago our nursing facilities were safe while she moved her own Mom from a facility into a hotel. That’s fine that she wants to watch out for her Mom but who is watching out for our grandparents that may be at risk in some of these homes. That is a do as I say not as I do hypocrisy Sec. Levine.

Our county has 139 cases today. If you go to the Dept. of Health website under County cases count to date it says Lycoming County has 7 total deaths. Scroll down farther and it has COVID-19 cases associated with nursing homes and personal care homes in Lycoming County with 8 deaths.

So is it 7 or 8 deaths Dr. Levine?

Their numbers are not accurate yet they say they are not spreading fear and these numbers are their foundation to look at the phase reopening. 70 percent of Pennsylvania businesses are small operations. They have been closed for two months. If they are not given the opportunity to reopen soon many will be closed permanently. Not being able to get a haircut, buy a car, sell or buy a home that are all essential and involve one on one contact is inexcusable. These are a few examples that need reopened. Please share to spread the truth!

News Talk 104.1 reported Thursday evening Governor Wolf will be making statements tomorrow as 13 additional counties move into the Yellow Phase and guidance will be given for an additional group of counties set for the Yellow Phase at a yet to be determined date.

No counties in Pennsylvania have yet to move into the Green Phase even with a single case over 10 weeks.
