Hall’s Blast Propels Williamsport

Cutters Postgame Recap

WILLIAMSPORT — Darick Hall, as he has done numerous times tonight, provided the blast that helped back a strong pitching performance from Cole Irvin as the Cutters defeated Mahoning Valley 4-2, in the regular season series finale against the Scrappers.

Mahoning Valley was able to jump out to an early lead against Cutters starter Cole Irvin, getting a sacrifice fly from Jonathan Laureno in the top of the 3rd inning to give the Scrappers a 1-0 lead.

Jorma Rodriguez added to the Scrappers lead with a RBI double in the top of the 4th inning that plated Erlin Cerda. It extended the lead to 2-0.

The Cutters stormed back in the bottom of the 6th inning against Scrappers reliever Alsis Herrera. Enmanuel Garcia started the scoring for Williamsport, plating Jesus Alastre with a RBI groundout to make it a 2-1 Crosscutters deficit.

After a single by David Martinelli, Darick Hall sent a Herrera offering well over the wall in deep right-center. Hall’s two-run home run capped a three-run bottom half of the 6th inning for the Cutters, giving them their first lead of the night at 3-2. It was the 7th home run of the season, giving him his team-leading 25th RBI.

Garcia capped the scoring for the Cutters on the night with a RBI double to left-center that chased home Jesus Alastre to give Williamsport a 4-2 lead heading to the 9th.

Enmanuel Garcia finished the night 1-for-4 with a double and pair of RBI. Jesus Alastre added three hits, going 3-for-4 with a double and a triple as well as scoring a pair of runs. Alastre was the lone Cutters batter to record a multi-hit night.

Cole Irvin continued a hot streak as the left-hander picked up his 5th win of the season, which puts him in a three-way tie for the most wins on the club with Ranger Suarez and Adonis Medina. Irvin allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits and a walk. Irvin struck out five batters.

Tyler Hallead closed out the night, tossing three innings of shutout baseball en route to his 2ndprofessional save. Hallead allowed two base hits and picked up a strikeout.

It was the second time in as many appearances for Hallead that he has converted a nine-out save for the Crosscutters.

Williamsport hits the road for their final road trip of the season, as they start a three-game series against the Batavia Muckdogs tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
