Williamsport’s undefeated run finally came to an end last week against Delaware Valley.
The Millionaires won six consecutive games to open the season before the 49-42 stumble on the road.
This week the Millionaires return home to take on Coughlin, which just won 40-0 over Elmer L. Myers last week.
The usual players showed up for Williamsport despite the loss.
Isaiah Hankins threw for 321 yards and two touchdowns and Treyson Potts gained 114 yards on 17 carries for three touchdowns.
The Millionaires will be gearing up to stop Vincent Todd, who represents a big part of Coughlin’s offense.
In last week’s win over Elmer L. Myers, Todd rushed for 109 yards on seven carries. He ripped off a 65-yard run and scored a touchdown in the 40-0 beatdown over Elmer L. Myers.
On the season, Todd has been all over the field for Coughlin, catching, throwing, and running.
Todd has 11 total touchdowns on the season and averages 33.1 receiving yards per game. His touchdowns breakdown with three receiving and eight rushing. Todd’s also completed a pass for 41 yards and a touchdown. Todd has 619 rushing yards on the season, but is just one part of Coughlin’s rushing attack.
Jake Cole has rushed for 641 yards on 111 carries this year. He has scored two touchdowns and proven to be one of Coughlin’s most reliable weapons out of the backfield.
Against Elmer L. Myers, Cole carried the ball 19 times for 168 yards to go with a touchdown. He was able to grind the yards out when the Crusaders needed him the most.
Williamsport should be ready to get back on the field tonight.
Despite the team’s first loss of the season, they have managed to score 330 points in six games. They’ve also topped 60 points twice and topped 40 points five times in six games.
Adversity is what good teams face and Williamsport is facing it for the first time this season.
Nathan Welch is leading the Millionaires in tackles with 33 on the season.
His standout performance was a 13 tackle outing against Hazleton. He will be expected to help Williamsport’s defense, which gave up 49 points last week.
The Millionaires gave up double digit points in three of four quarters last week at Delaware Valley. The tipping point was a 21-point output by Delaware Valley in the fourth quarter to match Williamsport.
With as much offense as Williamsport has the defense hardly needs to pitch a shutout or anything like that, but they need to play a little better.
Delaware gained 21 first downs against Williamsport last Saturday. Delaware Valley also found success through the air, throwing for three touchdowns and 275 yards on 12 completions. The good thing about Coughlin is it will not be looking to gain yards through air. The Crusaders have passed for just 387 yards on the season, which seems like a good game for Hankins, who has passed for 1,332 yards on the season.
This game represents a good chance for Williamsport to bounce back after the season’s first defeat. Potts, Hankins, and Martezes Clark will all play well for Williamsport, which should get back to its winning ways later tonight.
