MANSFIELD – Mansfield University will offer limited-edition, one-of-a-kind 125th anniversary jerseys for football alumni and their families.
To celebrate the historic milestone, the jerseys will – for the first time in school history – feature the name of the player as well as their number along with the official 125th Anniversary Logo on a patch.
“Our committee wanted to do something very special for the 125th year celebration,” said committee chairman and Mansfield University Director of Athletic Operations and Information Steve McCloskey.
“For the first, and perhaps the only time in program history, Mansfield football players and their families will have the opportunity wear a Mountaineer football jersey with names on the back. We hope it’s as special for them as they are to us.”
Designed by football alum Tony Confer, the jersey will also feature the official Mansfield football 125th anniversary patch, designed by Assistant Sports Information Director Ryan McNamara.
The cost of the jersey is $100 with all profits from the sale supporting Mountaineer football special events including the Frank Butsko Awards Brunch, Josh Palmer Pigskin Classic and Steve Zegalia Memorial Football Golf Outing and other football events.
Mansfield University will celebrate the 125th anniversary of its football program with a season-long series of events, promotions, reunions and historical remembrances.
The highlight of the celebration will come on Homecoming Weekend, Saturday Oct. 15 during the Mountaineers’ game with Franklin Pierce University.
The Homecoming celebration starts off with the 35th Annual Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame induction dinner on Friday, October 14.
Saturday’s events include the annual Frank Butsko Awards Brunch followed a pregame tailgate party for football alumni and families. A pregame ceremony will include all football alumni in attendance serving as honorary captains and participating in the Jimmy Yarosh Coin Toss.
A post-game dinner with historical football memorabilia will be on display in the lobby of Decker Gymnasium.
Interested football alumni and their families are urged to order their jerseys and make reservations for all the events as soon as possible. Registration links can be found above.
Jerseys order by October 15 should be available to be picked up at the 125th Anniversary Celebration during Homecoming Weekend. Jerseys will be mailed to anyone unable to attend the events.
