Martinelli Extends Streak in Loss

Cutters Postgame Recap

Burlington, VT —  David Martinelli extended his current hit-streak to 11 games on a RBI single in the top of the 3rd, but his efforts were not enough as the Cutters fell to the Vermont Lake Monster 6-3 on the road. The loss ends the Cutters season-high, five-game winning streak.

Julian Garcia struggled with command, walking four batters over three and a third innings. Garcia surrendered five runs, all earned, while allowing five hits in the losing effort.

Vermont stormed out in front in the bottom of the first inning against Garcia. The Lake Monster scored four runs, using four hits and three walks in the inning to take the early. Highlighting the scoring was a RBI double by Eli White.

David Martinelli got the Cutters on the board with an RBI single in the top of the 3rd inning when he drove a Dakota Chalmers offering up the middle to plate Juan Luis, who led off the inning with a triple, to get Williamsport on the board. The RBI was Martinelli’s ninth of the year.

The Lake Monsters got the run back in the bottom of the 4th inning on a RBI single by Miguel Martinez to give Vermont a 5-1 lead. The single was allowed by reliever Blake Quinn, but the run was charged to Garcia.

Down 5-1, the Cutters were able to get two in the top of the 6th inning against reliever Marc Berube. Jesus Alastre plated Luis Encarnacion with a RBI infield single to make it 5-2. Alastre’s RBI single extended his hitting streak to 10 games and was his ninth run batted in on the season.

Evan Rogers capped the scoring in the inning when he scored on a Berube wild pitch making the Crosscutters deficit 5-3 heading to the bottom of the 6th.

Eli White’s RBI single in the bottom of the 6th against Blake Quinn got a run back for Vermont, pushing their lead back to 6-3.

The Cutters were able to get runners aboard in the 7th, 8th and 9th innings, but were unable to get another run across against the Lake Monsters bullpen. On the night, Williamsport left 11 runners on base and finished the game 3-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

Martinelli finished the night 2-for4 for an RBI. Jesus Alastre was also able to extend his current hit-streak to 10 games, picking up an RBI infield single in the 6th inning.

Scott Harris was strong, tossing 2.2 perfect innings of relief, retiring all seven batters that he faced, including a huge inning-ending double play in the bottom of the 6th inning. Harris lowered his ERA in Williamsport to 0.87.

With the loss, the Cutters fall to 4-11 in 15 games on the road this season and fall to 4-10 in games outside of the Pinckney division.

Adonis Medina gets the nod in the series finale against Vermont. Medina is looking to improve upon his 3-0 record and 0.64 ERA. First pitch against the Lake Monsters is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
