Williamsport, PA — The Williamsport Crosscutters were able to take game one of their doubleheader against the Renegades after waiting out a rain delay, but the second game was unable to be completed as the Cutters wrap their season series against Hudson Valley.
The Cutters and Renegades battled to a 2-2 tie through five innings at BB&T Ballpark, but the weather would yet again play a factor in the top of the 6th, as heavy rains forced the second weather delay.
The game would be suspended at 1:13 a.m. in the top of the 6th inning after a thirty-minute delay. Since Hudson Valley and Williamsport will not meet up again this regular season, per league rule, the game goes as a “no-game” and will officially go as a tie that will not be displayed in the standings.
The Cutters will essentially lose the game and play a 75-game schedule, while making a push for their second-consecutive playoff appearances.
Brett Barbier provided the only offense in game one of the doubleheader, plating Henri Lartigue with an RBI single through a drawn-in infield in the bottom of the sixth. The RBI was the 7th of the season for Barbier.
Adonis Medina worked an inning and a third before the rains came and delayed the game for three hours and thirty-eight minutes. Medina did not allow a hit in his outing, but did walk three of the six batters he faced.
After the resumption, Julian Garcia was dominate out of the Cutters bullpen, scattering five hits and a walk over 3.1 innings. The right-hander struck out a season-high six batters while taking a no-decision.
Will Hibbs took over for Garcia with two out in the 5th inning. Hibbs worked out of jams in the 5th and the 6th innings. Then slammed the door in the top of the 7th with a clean frame. Hibbs earned his 3rdwin of the season, striking out a pair over 2.1 innings.
Williamsport concludes their series against the Hudson Valley Renegades. Cole Irvin gets the nod for Williamsport, as the All Star looks for his 5th win. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. At BB&T Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field.
