
Williamsport, PA — The Williamsport Crosscutters offense came to life, plating six runs, behind another masterful start from Adonis Medina, as the Cutters topped the IronBirds 6-2. The win snaps a season-high five-game losing streak.
The Cutters took an early lead, scoring a pair in the bottom of the 2nd inning against Aberdeen starter Hunter Harvey. Jose Antequera started the scoring with an RBI single into right to score Evan Rogers making it 1-0. Mark Laird, who is on a rehab assignment, followed with an RBI knock to score Luis Espiritu Jr. giving the Cutters a 2-0 advantage after 2.
Harvey surrendered another run in the bottom of the 4th inning, as he threw the ball down the right field line trying to field a sacrifice bunt dropped down by Antequera. Espiritu Jr. raced around the bases, scoring from 1st base on the error to give the Cutters a 3-0 lead.
That play marked the end of the night for Harvey, who finished the night allowing three runs (two earned) in 3.1 innings of work. Harvey, the Orioles top prospect took his first loss, falling to 0-1 on the season.
Henri Lartigue announced his presence to lead off the bottom of the 5th inning as the catcher launched a Jeong-Hyeon Yoon offering over the wall in left to extend the Cutters lead to 4-0. It was the first professional home run of the season for the former Ole Miss Rebel.
The offense wasn’t down scoring in the bottom of the 5th as Luke Maglich delivered a RBI single up the middle to score Brett Barbier making it a 5-0 Cutters lead. For Maglich, it was his team-leading 9th RBI of the season.
The IronBirds were able to get a run off of Medina in the top of the 6th inning, as Cole Billingsley, after tripling earlier in the inning, came home to score on an Adonis Medina wild pitch to cut the deficit to 5-1.
Adonis Medina worked six strong innings, allowing just one run on four hits, while striking out three Aberdeen Batters. The right-hander secured his third win of the season, improving his record to 3-0 with an ERA of 0.64 over 28.1 innings.
Jesus Alastre capped the scoring for the Cutters with a pinch-hit RBI double in the bottom of the 6thinning to drive home Antequera, giving Williamsport an 6-1 lead heading into 7th inning.
Will Hibbs tossed a pair of scoreless innings of relief, working around a double in the 7th and a walk in the 8th. Hibbs finished the night with three strikeouts.
The IronBirds added one more run against the Cutters bullpen on a solo home run by Jaylen Ferguson off of Jonathan Hennigan. The homer was the 2nd of the season for Furguson, cutting the Williamsport lead to four at 6-2.
The Crosscutters start a three-game series as they welcome in the Batavia Muckdogs tomorrow night at BB&T Ballpark. Williamsport will send JoJo Romero to the mound. It will be the second start Romero this season. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
