Offense Stalls in Cutters Loss

Cutters Postgame Recap

Williamsport, PA. — The Crosscutters offense struggled as they dropped the first game to the Staten Island Yankees by a final of 4-1. It was only the fifth loss at home for the Cutters, as they drop to four games behind the State College Spikes in the Pinckney division.

The Yankees were able to strike first against Crosscutters starter Bailey Falter, as a RBI groundout by Timmy Robinson gave the Yanks a 1-0 lead. For Robinson, it was his 30th RBI on the year.

Chandler Hall provided the only offense for the Cutters, as the shortstop drilled a Austin DeCarr offering over the wall in left-center field in the bottom of the 5th. It was Hall’s 1st home run and his 4thRBI of the season. At the time, it tied the game at 1-1.

Bailey Falter finished the night allowing four runs, all earned, on seven hits and a walk while only striking out one while taking his fifth loss of the season. Most of the damage done against Falter was done in the top of the 6th when the Yankees used four-straight hits to score three runs and make it a 4-1 lead.

The Cutters were able to get the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the 9th inning, but Luis Encarnacion took strike three from Yankees closer Brooks Kriske to end the ball game. The strikeout was the 51st of the season for Encarnacion.

Austin DeCarr earned his first win of the season for the Staten Island Yankees, tossing five innings, allowing just the one run on the Chandler Hall home run. DeCarr struck out four Cutters en route to the win.

Jon Hennigan and Kenny Koplove combined to work three shutout innings of relief for Williamsport. Hennigan struck out the side in the 8th inning, which was the left-handers 2nd inning of relief. Koplove worked around a pair of base runners, striking out the side in the 9th.

Williamsport falls to 5-11 against opponents outside of the Pinckney division. The Cutters hang on to a game and a half lead over the Staten Island Yankees in the New York-Penn League Wild Card race.

Williamsport plays the middle game between the Staten Island Yankees tomorrow night. Adonis Medina looks to rebound from his first loss as he goes for the Cutters. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. At BB&T Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field.
