Penn College Basketball Teams Set For Conference Play

During a week that included the Thanksgiving Day holiday break, Pennsylvania College of Technology basketball teams went 1-2. The Wildcats begin North Eastern Athletic Conference play on Wednesday at Keuka College.

Men’s basketball

In their first-ever meeting, Penn College overcame an early 10-point deficit against Elmira College for an 87-80 home non-conference win on Tuesday. The Wildcats, who entered the game shooting just 28 percent from the field and 16.7 percent from the 3-point line, made 54.2 percent of their field goal attempts and shot 50 percent from 3-point range in the win. Robert Young, of Abington, led Penn College in scoring with 25 points while Ben Sosa, of Loyalsock Township, added 22 points and Spencer Bartron, of Camden, Delaware, scored 17. Penn College outscored the Soaring Eagles 42-24 in the paint.

On Sunday at unbeaten crosstown rival Lycoming College, ranked No. 22 among NCAA Division III schools, the Wildcats fell, 92-70, to drop to 1-4 on the season. Young led Penn College with 17 points and Brandon Fedoriw, of Williamsport, added 11 points. Lycoming outscored the Wildcats 46-26 in the paint and had 40 points off 34 Wildcats turnovers.

In North Eastern Athletic Conference action this week: At Keuka College (2-3 overall through Sunday), 6 p.m. Wednesday; host SUNY Cobleskill (3-2 overall through Sunday), 1 p.m. Saturday; host Morrisville State College (1-2 overall through Sunday), noon Sunday.

Last meeting vs. Keuka College: Lost 73-59 last Feb. 17.

Last meeting vs. SUNY Cobleskill: Won 75-62 last Jan. 29.

Last meeting vs. Morrisville State College:  Lost 88-66 last Feb. 12.

Statistically speaking: Entering conference play, the Wildcats are averaging 63.8 points per game on offense and allowing 81.2 on defense. Young leads the team in scoring with 17.8 per game, while Sosa is averaging 13 points per game.

 

Women’s basketball

At crosstown rival Lycoming College on Tuesday, Penn College fell, 88-35, to drop to 1-3 overall. Cassi Kuhns, of Loyalsock Township, led Penn College with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Tori Wolfe added 10 rebounds. Lycoming outscored the Wildcats 50-12 in the paint and had 29 points off Penn College turnovers.

In North Eastern Athletic Conference action this week: At Keuka College (4-0 overall through Sunday), 8 p.m. Wednesday; host SUNY Cobleskill (2-2 overall through Sunday), 1 p.m. Saturday; host Morrisville State College (1-3 overall through Sunday), noon Sunday.

Last meeting vs. Keuka College: Lost 77-44 last Feb. 17.

Last meeting vs. SUNY Cobleskill: Lost 56-46 last Jan. 29.

Last meeting vs. Morrisville State College:  Lost 59-47 last Feb. 12.

Statistically speaking: Entering conference play, the Wildcats are averaging 45 points per game on offense and allowing 65.3 on defense. Gwendolyn Lavelle, of Pocono Summit, tops the team in scoring, averaging 11.8 points per game, and Kuhns is averaging 10 points per game.
