Niles, O.H. — The Cutters plated the game’s only run on a wild pitch in the top of the 2nd inning and starter JoJo Romero was able to keep the Scrappers off of the board before the rains came, ending the game after just five innings, giving the Cutters the 1-0 win.
The Cutters were able to get on the board in the top of the 2nd inning, cashing in on a lead off walk drawn by Brett Barbier. Barbier, who reached 3rd base on a single by Gregori Rivero, raced home on a Triston McKenzie wild pitch to give the Cutters a 1-0 lead.
Mother Nature made herself known in the bottom of the 5th inning, bringing heavy rain accompanied by lightning and thunder. JoJo Romero was able to get the final out of the 5th, despite the downpour.
The game went into a weather delay after the 5th inning was complete, with the Cutters leading the Scrappers 1-0.
Romero was able to work around at least one base runner in four of his five innings of work, allowing two hits, three walks and hitting a batter. The left-hander struckout four Scrappers in his five innings of work before the rains came.
Scrappers starter Triston McKenzie was able to hold the Crosscutters offense in check, striking out seven Crosscutters batters through the first four innings. McKenzie finished the night, allowing the one run on three hits and striking out eight Cutters batters.
The Cutters improved to 21-6 against the Pinckney division and 10-12 on the road with the win over the Scrappers.
The Cutters continue their three-game series with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers Monday night. Ranger Suarez makes his first start since tossing a No-Hitter against the Auburn Doubledays. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Eastwood Field.
