Suarez’s No-No Highlights Cutters Sweep

Cutters Postgame Recap

Williamsport, P.A. — Cutters starter Ranger Suarez set the tone in the first game of the doubleheader, tossing a seven-inning no-hitter in the Cutters game one win. The Cutters used a four-run 6th inning, highlighted by a David Martinelli two-run single to take game two by a final of 6-2. The Doubleheader sweep gave the Cutters their 2nd consecutive series sweep.

Williamsport’s offense gave Suarez some breathing room early, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first, taking advantage of two hits and two errors by the Doubledays. Darick Hall highlighted the frame with an RBI double to score Mark Laird and Jan Hernandez and give the Cutters a 2-0 lead. For Hall, it was his 8th and 9th RBI on the season.

Hall ended up scoring the Cutters third run of the inning on a fielding error by Auburn second basemen Jake Noll, who ended up making a 2nd error on the play that allowed Luis Encarnacion to reach 2nd base.

Jan Hernandez’s double in the 3rd inning with two outs, was followed up by Darick Hall’s 2nd double of the game, scoring Hernandez from 2nd to give Williamsport the 4-0 lead. It was the 10th RBI for Hall.

It was more than Ranger Suarez would need.

Ranger Suarez finished the no-hitter, walking only one batter, which was the first batter that he faced, and striking out five Doubledays batters. Suarez started a double play to erase the walk in the 1st, and retired the next 21 batters that he faced to complete the first Cutters no-hitter since 2013.

The Cutters got the scoring started early again in the 2nd game of the doubleheader, as Gregori Rivero singled home Luke Maglich to give the Cutters a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st. The single by Rivero was the third straight single by Cutters batters and was Rivero’s 6th RBI on the season.

The Doubledays plated a run in each of the 2nd and the 3rd innings to take a 2-1 lead over the Cutters against starter Felix Paulino. Auburn carried that lead into the bottom of the 4th inning.

Chandler Hall tied the game in the bottom of the 4th with a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Gregori Rivero, who had doubled to start the inning. The RBI was Chandler Hall’s 3rd of the season.

Felix Paulino was replaced by Scott Harris after working the first five innings of the game, allowing the two runs on three hits. Paulino struck out seven batters while taking the no-decision.

The Cutters broke it open in the bottom of the 6th inning, taking the lead for good and adding upon it. Luis Encarnacion’s bases-loaded single that scored Luke Maglich broke the 2-2 tie and gave the Cutters a 3-2 lead. The RBI was the 8th of the season for Encarnacion.

Evan Rogers singled home Brett Barbier to make it a 4-2 Cutters lead, giving Roger’s his 2nd RBI in a Cutters uniform and David Martinelli capped the scoring in the inning with a two-run single down the first base line that scored Gregori Rivero and Luis Encarnacion to give the Cutters a 6-2 lead.

Scott Harris worked around a pair of infield base hits in the top of the 7th to earn his 2nd win of the season and improve his record to 2-0 on the season. Harris did not allow a run over his two innings of relief.

The Cutters are off tomorrow on a league-wide off day. They will resume play on Thursday night as they welcome in the Pinckney division leading State College Spikes. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. At BB&T Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field.
