On Thursday afternoon, Steve Helm of the Williamsport Bureau of Police filed a federal lawsuit against Mayor Derek Slaughter, former Mayor Gabriel Campana and the City of Williamsport.
The case in broad terms alleges violations of free speech and retaliation.
Helm through his lawyer Mike Zicolello of the local law firm Schemery & Zicolello has previously been successful in litigation against the City of Williamsport.
The civil case to be heard in U.S. Middle District Federal Court is assigned to Judge Matthew Brann.
An initial case opening Order has not yet been issued or a case schedule assigned.
As a footnote, Steve Helm and his wife Shelly contributed to the election campaign of Mayor Slaughter.
