BACKGROUND: For nearly two weeks Congressman Keller has taken the following efforts to help stop
the spread of COVID-19 in the federal Bureau of Prisons system:
• Written a letter to BOP Director Michael Carvajal telling him to halt all inmate movement
nationally
• Spoken to wardens at USP Lewisburg and FCC Allenwood about inmate movement
• Had phone calls with top Bureau of Prisons officials, including Director Carvajal urging the
immediate stoppage of inmate movement nationally
• Voted for the CARES Act that authorizes $100 million to the Bureau of Prisons for the purchase
of additional personal protective equipment
• Working on introducing legislation to give the Bureau of Prisons the authority to stop inmate
movement
On Tuesday’s tele-town hall, Congressman Keller made the following statement:
