On Monday afternoon, Congressman Fred Keller and State Senator Gene Yaw issued statements on the passing of Bradford County Commissioner Ed Bustin.
Congressman Fred Keller, offered the following message:
“I join the people of Bradford County in mourning the loss of Commissioner Ed Bustin. Ed was a consummate professional and a tireless fighter for the best interests of Bradford County. We are keeping him and his family in prayer during this time.”
State Senator Gene Yaw:
“I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Bradford County Commissioner Ed Bustin today,” Sen. Yaw said. “I have worked very closely with Ed during his years as Commissioner, most notably in our joint effort to combat heroin and opioid addiction all across Pennsylvania – this was something Ed was truly passionate about. He was a true public servant, smart, generous and dedicated.
My heart goes out to the Bustin family.”
In March 2015, Ed Bustin was appointed by Bradford County President Judge Maureen Beirne to complete the unexpired term of Commissioner Mark Smith.
Ed earned an associate’s degree in fire science technology.
He had a long history of service as a volunteer firefighter and EMT in Bradford County. Ed also served, on several boards of directors, including the Endless Mountains Transportation Authority, NY-Penn Leadership and Greater Valley Emergency Medical Services.
Before his appointment to the County Commissioners, Ed worked for 15 years as the Safety, Health and Environmental Manager for Masco Cabinetry in Athens Township.
Prior to that, Ed worked at the Robert Packer Hospital for 18 years, starting as an orderly, and ending his career at Guthrie as the Manager of Safety and Security.
Ed is survived by his wife, Terry, who is an Athens Area School District Teacher.
