Questions why Governor is refusing to work with Pennsylvania lawmakers

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Fred Keller (R-PA) on Tuesday called on Gov. Tom Wolf to work with Pennsylvania officials on a plan to eventually re-open the Commonwealth’s economy as COVID-19 cases decline.

Congressman Keller’s comments were made on the Fox News program Fox & Friends First Tuesday morning after Gov. Wolf announced on Monday that he is joining a coalition of Democrat governors from other states to form a regional plan to open the states’ economies.

The coalition includes New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D-NY), New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy (D-NJ), Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo (D-RI), Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont (D-CT), Delaware Governor John Carney (D-DE), and Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker (R-MA) and effectively ties Pennsylvania’s interests to the other states, shutting out Republicans from Pennsylvania and the rest of the northeast region.

In addition to his comments in the interview, Congressman Fred Keller (R-PA) made the following statement on reopening Pennsylvania’s economy:

“When Gov. Wolf shut down Pennsylvania’s economy, he did so without consulting the Pennsylvania General Assembly, the Pennsylvania Congressional Delegation, and the Pennsylvania business community. The result was a confusing plan that caused panic, misinformation, and concern for the future of millions of livelihoods.

“In reopening our economy, Gov. Wolf has the ability to work with Republicans in Pennsylvania at all levels of government who are eager to get to work on planning the Commonwealth’s economic comeback. Instead, he is once again shutting Pennsylvanians out of the process and playing politics with our country’s economic future.

The Pennsylvania Senate and House are preparing to take votes on reopening portions of the economy today.

“While the Governor keeps talking about the new normal, I’d like to get back–at least as far as the economy is concerned–to the old normal that started on January 20, 2017, under the leadership of President Donald Trump. I think the Governor also needs to take input from the administration and the experts who created the greatest economy on the face of the earth.”
