Cutters Edge ValleyCats

Williamsport, PA — The Williamsport Crosscutters used a four-run 5th to edge the Tri-City ValleyCats, snapping a six-game losing streak in the process.

Ramon Rosso made his Williamsport Crosscutters debut, and was solid for the most part. The right-hander tossed three shutout innings against Tri-City, allowing three hits and striking out four. The only blemish, for Rosso was allowing four walks.

Rodolfo Duran led off the bottom of the 3rd with a line drive single, followed by a Nick Maton double to left field. Malvin Matos drew a walk to load the bases for Adam Haseley. Haseley lined out to right field, but was deep enough for Duran to tag and score to give the Cutters a 1-0 lead on Haseley’s 17th RBI of the season.

The Crosscutters left the bases loaded in the 3rd inning.

Tri-City was able to tie the game in the top of the 4th inning, getting a sacrifice fly from Colton Shaver to scoreAndy Pineda off of Cutters reliever David Parkinson.

Parkinson allowed the one run, unearned, over two innings of work. Parkinson tossed a clean 5th inning, en route to earning his first professional win of the season.

Brian Mims led off bottom of the 5th inning by being hit by a Juan Robles offering. Maton followed with a single and Matos drew a walk to load the bases with no outs in the inning for Haseley.

Haseley was hit by a Robles offering to plate Mims from 3rd to give the Cutters a 2-1 lead and give Haseley his 18th RBI of the season.

Greg Pickett followed by working a walk to score Maton and extend the Cutters lead to 3-1, giving Pickett his 17th RBI of the year.

After a strikeout and a pop out, Josh Stephen stepped in the the sacks packed, singling into left-center to score Matos and Haseley giving Williamsport a 5-1 lead and giving Stephen his 20th RBI of the season.

The ValleyCats were able to get a run back in the top of the 8th inning against reliever Damon Jones, using a RBI single from Corey Julks to score Gabriel Bracamonte to cut the Cutters advantage to 5-2.

Jones allowed just the one run, earned, over three innings of relief. The lefty struck out four while surrendering just two hits.

New York-Penn League All-Star Randy Alcantara tossed a perfect 9th inning, recording his third save of the season as the Cutters topped the ValleyCats 5-2 to salvage a game in the series and snap a six-game losing skid.

The Crosscutters enter the All-Star break and will return to action on Wednesday in Auburn. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. At Falcon Park.
