Cutters sending 8 to NYPL ASG

The rosters for the New York-Penn League All-Star Game have been released for both the North and South squads, who will face off on Tuesday, August 18 at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, Maryland, home of the Aberdeen Ironbirds.

Eight Williamsport Crosscutters were named to the South Team All-Star roster including; RHP Alejandro Arteaga, RHP Mitch Gueller, RHP Rob Tasin, C Austin Bossart, 1B Brendon Hayden, 2B Josh Tobias, OF Zach Coppola and OF Mark Laird.

Alejandro Arteaga was signed by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2011 as an international free agent out of Palo Negro, Venezuela. Arteaga has posted a perfect 4-0 record with a 3.07 ERA in 8 starts for Williamsport in 2015. Arteaga is making his first New York-Penn League All Star appearance.

Mitch Guller was selected by the Phillies as a supplemental first round pick in 2012 (54th overall). Gueller is 6-1, with a 1.93 ERA so far this season. His 6 wins ranks number one in the New York-Penn League. Gueller was named to the 2014 NYPL All Star Game that was played in Brooklyn, New York.

Rob Tasin was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 15th round of the 2015 draft out of Oklahoma University. Tasin is currently 2nd in the New York-Penn League with 9 saves. He has posted an ERA of 1.59 through 17.0 innings of work.

Austin Bossart was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 14th round of the 2015 draft out of the University of Pennsylvania. Bossart currently carries the New York-Penn Leagues longest active hit streak at 14 games entering play tonight. Bossart is batting .357 with a home run and 10 RBI in 18 games for Williamsport.

Brendon Hayden was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 16th round of the 2015 draft out of Virginia Tech University. Hayden carries the clubs highest batting average (among qualified batters) at .322 entering play tonight. Hayden has hit two home runs while driving in 13 runs in 34 games played.

Josh Tobias was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 10th round of the 2015 draft out of the University of Florida. Tobias leads the Crosscutters with 20 RBI entering play tonight. Tobias has hit two home runs while posting a .307 batting average in 36 games played.

Zach Coppola was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 13th round of the 2015 draft out of South Dakota State. Coppola leads the Crosscutters with 14 stolen bases entering play tonight. Coppola has posted a .308 average and has scored 26 runs in 37 games played.

Mark Laird was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 9th round of the 2015 draft out of Louisiana State University. Laird enters play tonight with a 10-game hit streak that has propelled his batting average to .301. Laird has posted a team-high (among qualified batters) .393 on-base percentage and has scored 22 runs in 33 games played.
