WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Geoff Hensley has been named head men’s basketball coach at Pennsylvania College of Technology, Director of Athletics John Vandevere announced May 21.
Hensley spent the past four seasons as the head coach at Thomas College (Maine), where he compiled a 55-52 record and led the team on four trips to the North Atlantic Conference playoffs, as well as a 2017 appearance in the NAC championship game. He coached five all-conference selections during his tenure and was 41-31 in conference play.
“Geoff’s passion, energy and dedication that he displayed during the interview process was very infectious and quickly moved him to the top of a strong candidate pool, following a national search,” Vandevere said. “We truly believe that we found the right person to help our students become better athletes and better men.”
“I look forward to working with Geoff to make Penn College a major player in the North Eastern Athletic Conference for many years to come. His work ethic and intensity leads me to believe he will get us to our goal quicker than we expect.”
Prior to Thomas College, Hensley was an assistant coach at Centre College (2012-2014) and Springfield College (2010-2012). At Centre, he helped guide the team to two tournament championships and a pair of berths to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
As a player, Hensley was a four-year starter and two-time team captain at Norwich University, where he was a three-time all-conference first team selection and the conference Rookie of the Year in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC). He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies from Norwich in 2006 and a Master of Education degree in Physical Education in 2012 from Springfield.
“Penn College’s mission, education and values create a unique experience that separates itself from all other colleges,” Hensley said. “Penn College is a world-class academic institution, and partnered with the strong leadership in athletics, together we can create a first-class basketball program. There is an exciting buzz around Penn College and Wildcat Athletics, and I am grateful to take the helm of the men’s basketball program.”
Following his graduation from Norwich, Hensley spent four years as an active-duty U.S. Naval Officer. During his first tour, he was a division officer on the USS Blue Ridge; he served as a division officer on the USS Doyle during his second tour.
Hensley will begin his role at Penn College on May 29.
