Penn College basketball teams coming off 1-5 week
Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s and women’s basketball teams went a combined 1-5 in games last week.
Men’s basketball
Returning after the holiday and semester break on Tuesday, Penn College dropped a 96-72 decision to visiting Penn State Berks. It was the Wildcats’ first loss in North Eastern Athletic Conference play. Penn College trailed by just eight at halftime before being outscored 45-29 the rest of the way. Leading the Penn College offense were Thomas Ross, of Williamsport, and Deaundra McCants, of Wellsboro, with 15 points each and Marquis Delgado, of Mansfield, with 12 points. Ross also hauled in 13 rebounds.
Hosting undefeated Lancaster Bible College on Thursday, Penn College fell, 109-52. Lancaster Bible, with five players scoring in double figures during the game, built a 64-19 halftime lead and coasted from there. Ross led the Wildcats with 19 points and Kevin Laurence-El, of Milton, scored 13.
On Saturday at Gallaudet University, a team it beat earlier in the season at home, Penn College lost, 78-55, to drop to 2-3 in the NEAC and 2-9 overall. Laurence-El led the Wildcats in scoring with 14 points while Ross had 13 points and 12 rebounds and Delgado scored 10 points.
Through Saturday in the NEAC South Division, Lancaster Bible College led at 4-0 followed by Penn State Berks, 3-1; Gallaudet University and Penn State Abington, both 2-2, Penn College 2-3, Wilson 0-2 and Bryn Athyn 0-3. Morrisville State leads the North Division at 3-0 and SUNY Poly is 2-0.
Women’s basketball
The Wildcats returned after a month-long layoff with an 87-65 home conference win over Penn State Berks on Tuesday. Penn College opened a 42-33 halftime lead and rolled from there, outscoring Berks 24-6 in the third quarter. Jamie Steer, of South Williamsport, led the Wildcats offense with 28 points while Alicia Ross, of Williamsport, scored 27 points and Ebani Lewis, of Sunbury, scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
At home again on Thursday, Penn College dropped a 79-52 decision to conference unbeaten Lancaster Bible College. Ross led Penn College with 16 points while Niesha Williams, of Loyalsock Township, tallied 15 and Lewis 10. Lewis topped the Wildcats with 15 rebounds.
Penn College closed out its week on Saturday at Gallaudet University with a 60-49 loss that left it with a 2-3 conference and 2-5 overall record. Steer led the Penn College scoring with 16 points while Danielle Mowery, of Shamokin, tallied 15 and Ross 11. Steer also pulled down 10 rebounds.
Through Saturday, the NEAC South Division standings have Lancaster Bible 4-0, St. Elizabeth 4-1, Bryn Athyn 3-1, Gallaudet 3-2, Penn State Abington 2-2, Penn College 2-3, Wilson College 0-4 and Penn State Berks 0-5. SUNY Poly leads the North Division with a 2-0 record.

Going into the Mont Alto meet, Ben Doll, of Glen Rock, will wrestle at the 125-pound weight class; Aaron Doll, of Glen Rock, at 133; Zach Fitzsimmons, of Portville, at 141; Mason Replogle, of New Enterprise, at 149; Tanner Leid, of Terre Hill, at 157; Dan Frankenfield, of Dushore, at 174; Connor Route, of Canton, at 184; Pat Fitzgerald, of Port Royal, at 197; and Zach Kane, of Higganum, Connecticut, at 285.
