Sean McCann Named Region II Athletic Director of the Year

Sean McCann, athletic director, Williamsport Area High School, has been named the 2015 Pennsylvania Region II Athletic Director of the year.

Mr. McCann has been an athletic administrator for 21 years, 19 years for the Williamsport Area School District and two prior years to that in the Hanover Public School District.  Sean graduated from the University of Maine in 1991 and from Indiana University with a master’s degree in Sport Management in 1993.

He is a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Directors Association (PSADA) and the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA), earning the CAA designation in 2003.

At the league level, McCann has served as the PHAC (formally the SVC) boys and girls tennis league chairman for 19 years.  He is currently the secretary/treasurer for the CPL Baseball/Softball League.  In the past, he was the president of the NE PA Swimming & Diving League as well as the Big VII Wrestling League.  Under Sean’s direction, Williamsport has hosted the PHAC Basketball Championship games and other league events.  Sean has been a tournament director for an annual 20-team wrestling tournament as well as numerous soccer, basketball, softball and baseball tournaments.

At the district level, Sean has been the District IV Athletic Director’s Association Vice-President for the past five years.  He has been a member of the District IV committee since 2003 and currently serves as the District IV baseball chairman and also on the football, basketball and wrestling district committees.  Williamsport has hosted District, Regional and State Playoff events in soccer, wrestling, basketball, baseball and softball with Sean working as a facility and game manager for these events.

In 2008, Sean was awarded with the PSADA Distinguished Service Athletic Director Award at the annual conference.

Over the past three years, Sean and other Williamsport Area School District administrators have lead a capital campaign to finance a new track and stadium, raising 2.2 million of the 2.7 million dollars for the project to this point.  McCann has also organized an annual fund-raising golf tournament for the Williamsport Education Foundation for the past 8 years; raising over $60,000 during that time.  Sean has coached Little League Baseball with his sons, along with elementary basketball teams.  He enjoys travelling back to his home state of Maine to visit family and friends, playing golf and spending time with his family.

Sean and his wife, Marcy have been married for 17 years.  They reside in Williamsport with their three children, Tyler, Andrew and Ally.
