
Morgantown, W.V.- Not in the initial starting line up, Cutters 3rd basemen Cole Stobbe‘s 4th home run of the season propelled Williamsport to their fifth straight win, 4-2, over West Virginia.
Stobbe’s shot came in the top of the 4th inning, sending a Ike Schlabach two-out offering over the Crosscutters bullpen in left center, scoring Adam Haseley to give the Cutters a 2-0 lead. For Stobbe, he became the first Cutter to reach double digit RBI with the blast, sitting at 11 runs batted in.
Haseley got into the run production, driving a Schlabach offering down the left field line to score Raul Rivas from 2nd base and extend the Crosscutters lead to 3-0 in the top of the 5th inning. It was Haseley’s first extra base hit and RBI since joining the team yesterday.
West Virginia cut into the deficit in the bottom of the 6th inning against Cutters reliever Jake Kelzer, as Jared Oliva plated Chris Sharpe to make it a 3-1 game.
Malvin Matos got the run back in the top of the 8th inning, scoring Cole Stobbe with a sacrifice fly against West Virginia reliever Nicholas Economos. The RBI was the sixth of the season for Matos, giving the Cutters a 4-1 lead.
The Black Bears used the duo of Oliva and Sharpe to score their second run of the game against Randy Alcantara to cut the deficit to 4-2.
Alcantara was able to close the door in the bottom of the 9th to earn his second save of the season and run the Cutters current win streak to a season-high five games.
Cutters starter Kyle Young, had his start yesterday pushed back to this evening, was able to keep the Black Bears scoreless over five innings of work, striking out four batters while walking three and scattering three hits.
Young’s record improved to 2-0 with the win.
Williamspot continues their three-game series against the West Virginia Black Bears. Gustavo Armas looks to capture his first win of the season, as his takes the hill. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. At Monongalia County Ballpark.
