SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (August 14, 2016) – Due to the continued inclement weather, an unfavorable forecast over the next two days, and unplayable field conditions at the Little League® Central Region in Indianapolis, Ind., along with the upcoming schedule of the Little League Baseball® World Series in South Williamsport, Pa., Little League International has decided to relocate the suspended Great Lakes Region Championship game to the Little League World Series Complex in South Williamsport, Pa.
The game between Kentucky (Bowling Green Eastern Little League) and Michigan (Essexville-Hampton Little League) will now be played in Howard J. Lamade Stadium in South Williamsport, Pa., on Monday, Aug. 15, at 12 p.m. The suspended game will resume where it was halted at the top of the second inning and continue as originally started. Admission to the game will be free and seating in the stadium is first-come, first-serve. Limited concessions will also be available.
“Based on the uniqueness of the situation, the limited amount of time and the unfortunate weather conditions in Indianapolis, we have decided to move the Great Lakes Region Championship to South Williamsport, Pa.,” said Stephen D. Keener, Little League President and CEO. “Our goal is to provide the kids with the most enjoyable experience possible and are sure that both teams will enjoy the opportunity to play their Region Championship at the official site of the Little League Baseball World Series here in Williamsport.”
Due to these circumstances, the game will not be televised, however, fans can follow the game live via GameChanger live scoring (https://gc.com/tmt/summer-2016/little-league-baseball-great-lakes-regional-2016-57643e4a5721800025f0015e/schedule). “We are grateful and appreciative for the understanding and cooperation from the players, parents and coaches to be able to execute this unique conclusion to the Great Lakes Region Tournament,” added Mr. Keener. “The only other alternative was to declare the undefeated Bowling Green Eastern Little League team as champion based on their record or have the champion decided by a coin flip, neither of which was acceptable to us and helped lead us to the decision to bring this game to South Williamsport, where the two teams can determine the outcome on the field. Our thanks go out to all those who have been inconvenienced by this, but we are confident that the kids will remember this experience for a long time.”
